How does eCO2 3D by Cynosure Lutronic work?
How does eCO2 3D by Cynosure Lutronic work?

Using a 10,600 nm CO₂ wavelength, eCO2 3D delivers fractional laser energy to create controlled microscopic treatment zones within the skin while leaving surrounding tissue intact. This stimulates the skin’s natural repair processes and collagen remodelling, leading to progressive improvements in texture, firmness and smoothness.

One of the key advantages of the platform is its versatility. Different treatment modes and settings allow the procedure to be tailored from lighter resurfacing with a shorter recovery period to more intensive treatment for deeper scars, wrinkles and advanced photoageing.

What makes eCO2 3D by Cynosure Lutronic different?

CO₂ lasers have long been considered one of the leading technologies for intensive skin resurfacing and collagen remodelling. Traditional CO₂ treatments, however, are often associated with more significant downtime and limited flexibility. eCO2 3D offers a more controlled and highly customisable approach to fractional CO₂ resurfacing.

The platform allows treatment at different depths and intensities — from lighter surface renewal to deeper ablative resurfacing. This means the treatment can be tailored according to the concern, treatment area, season, acceptable downtime and desired outcome.

What can eCO2 3D by Cynosure Lutronic treat?

eCO2 3D treatment options

Precision Peel — gentle CO₂ resurfacing

Precision Peel is a lighter resurfacing protocol for patients looking to improve skin texture, tone, visible pores and radiance with a shorter recovery period. It may be suitable as a first CO₂ treatment, for maintenance or for patients seeking a more subtle yet visible level of skin renewal.

Deep fractional CO₂ resurfacing

A more intensive protocol for patients with acne scars, deeper wrinkles, pronounced textural irregularities and advanced photoageing. The aim is more extensive skin remodelling, collagen stimulation and visible improvement in the skin’s surface. Recovery is more pronounced, but the treatment also offers greater potential for correction.

Frequently asked questions
Is eCO2 3D treatment painful?
The procedure is performed with local anaesthesia to maximise comfort. Treatment typically takes around 30–60 minutes, depending on the area and intensity.
Following eCO2 3D treatment, the skin gradually becomes smoother, firmer and more even. Scars and enlarged pores may appear less pronounced, wrinkles are softened and overall texture improves.

Some of the improvement becomes visible once the initial healing period is complete, while the most significant changes develop progressively over the following months as new collagen is formed.
For milder concerns, visible improvement may be achieved after 1–2 treatments. Deeper scars and more advanced photoageing may require 2–3 sessions, typically spaced 6–8 weeks apart. The exact treatment plan is determined individually.
The treatment may not be suitable in the presence of an active tan, during pregnancy, in patients with a tendency to develop keloid scars or when taking certain medications. A dermatological consultation is required to determine the appropriate timing and treatment intensity.

Atrophic scars

Atrophic scars are indented scars that most commonly appear following acne or other inflammatory conditions. They are caused by a loss of collagen and uneven skin regeneration.
