Medical microneedling with Dermapen

Dermapen is an advanced microneedling technology designed to stimulate the skin’s natural renewal processes. At Dermique, we use Dermapen to improve skin texture, enlarged pores, fine lines, acne scars and overall skin quality through precise and controlled treatment.

How does Dermapen work?
How does Dermapen work?

Dermapen uses a system of fine microneedles that move vertically in a stamping motion to create controlled microchannels in the skin. This allows precise treatment while minimising unnecessary lateral trauma to the surrounding tissue.

The controlled micro-injuries activate the skin’s natural repair response, stimulating collagen and elastin production. As the skin remodels, it can gradually become smoother, firmer and more even in appearance.

The treatment does not use heat, laser or radiofrequency energy, but instead relies on the skin’s natural regenerative response.

What can Dermapen treat?
  • acne scars
  • enlarged pores
  • uneven skin texture
  • fine lines and early signs of ageing
  • reduced skin firmness and elasticity
  • superficial scars
  • stretch marks in selected areas
  • overall improvement in skin quality
What makes Dermapen different from traditional microneedling?

Dermapen allows a high degree of control and treatment customisation. Needle depth can be precisely adjusted according to the treatment area and individual skin concerns — from more delicate areas such as the eye contour to areas affected by deeper scarring.

The device uses vertical needle penetration to create consistent microchannels while minimising unnecessary trauma to the surrounding tissue. This allows for a more controlled and precise treatment approach.

In addition to stimulating collagen production, the microchannels created during treatment temporarily increase skin permeability. When topical products are used in conjunction with microneedling, only formulations specifically intended and considered appropriate for this purpose should be applied.

The treatment generally involves minimal downtime. Temporary redness and sensitivity are expected following the procedure, while improvements in texture and overall skin quality develop progressively over the following weeks.

Frequently asked questions
Is Dermapen treatment painful?
A topical or local anaesthetic may be used to improve comfort during the procedure, depending on the treatment depth and area. The treatment is generally well tolerated.

Temporary redness, sensitivity or mild swelling may occur afterwards and usually subsides gradually over the following 24–48 hours, although recovery time can vary according to treatment intensity and individual skin response.
A course of approximately 3–6 treatments, often spaced 4–6 weeks apart, may be recommended depending on the concern being treated and the individual response of the skin.

Fewer sessions may be sufficient for milder textural concerns, while acne scarring may require a more extensive treatment course. The number and frequency of treatments are determined individually.
Microneedling may not be appropriate in the presence of active skin infections, active inflammatory acne or certain other skin conditions in the treatment area.

Pregnancy, medications that may affect healing or increase bleeding risk, a history of abnormal scarring and relevant medical conditions should be discussed before treatment. Suitability and timing are determined following individual assessment.
Yes, Dermapen can be performed during the summer, as it is not a laser treatment and does not use light-based energy.

However, the skin is temporarily more sensitive following treatment, making appropriate sun protection essential. Direct sun exposure, sunbeds, saunas and excessive heat should be avoided during the initial recovery period.

Atrophic scars

Atrophic scars are indented scars that most commonly appear following acne or other inflammatory conditions. They are caused by a loss of collagen and uneven skin regeneration.

Appropriate treatment methods

At Dermique, we don’t treat acne scars using just one technique. Where necessary, we combine:
