Lip fillers — natural shape, hydration & balance

Lip fillers are injectable treatments with hyaluronic acid that can enhance the shape, definition, hydration and volume of the lips. At Dermique, there is no one-size-fits-all approach. Each treatment is tailored to the individual anatomy, facial proportions and desired outcome. The aim is for the lips to look fresher, more hydrated and beautifully defined — without excessive volume, an artificial appearance or compromising natural expression.

What can lip fillers achieve?

Lip fillers can be used to:

  • enhance hydration and freshness
  • improve lip definition
  • subtly enhance the Cupid’s bow
  • improve asymmetry
  • restore lost volume
  • create fuller yet natural-looking lips
  • soften fine lines around the lips
  • improve the balance between the upper and lower lip
The best result does not always mean more volume. For many patients, a subtle and precisely placed enhancement can make the greatest difference.
What kind of results can we achieve?

Volume & shape

For patients seeking fuller, more defined lips while maintaining balance with the rest of the face. Volume is built gradually and with precision to preserve natural proportions.

Subtle hydration

Ideal for lips that are dry, fine or lacking freshness when no noticeable increase in volume is desired. The aim is a smoother, fresher and more hydrated appearance.

Restoring age-related volume loss

Over time, the lips may lose volume, hydration and definition. Hyaluronic acid filler can help restore softness and structure for a fresher appearance while preserving the natural character of the face.

What kind of results can we achieve?
Our approach to lip fillers at Dermique

Before treatment, we assess the shape and symmetry of the lips, the profile, the proportion between the upper and lower lip, as well as the position of the teeth, chin and overall facial proportions.

The product and technique are selected according to the individual goal — whether hydration, definition, volume, correction of asymmetry or restoring fullness that has diminished over time. Our approach is gradual and considered, as excessive volume in the lips can quickly compromise their natural proportions and appearance.

What to expect during your treatment

Every treatment begins with a consultation to discuss the desired outcome and assess the lips and surrounding facial anatomy. A topical anaesthetic may be applied for additional comfort, and many modern fillers also contain lidocaine.

The filler is carefully placed using a fine needle or cannula, depending on the technique and treatment goal. The procedure typically takes around 20–30 minutes. The initial result is visible immediately, although the final outcome is assessed once the swelling has subsided and the product has settled into the tissues.

Frequently asked questions
Will my lips look natural?
When carefully planned and performed, lip filler treatment can achieve subtle, natural-looking results. The outcome depends on individual anatomy, product selection, the amount used and the injection technique. At Dermique, we do not work towards a universal lip shape — each treatment is planned to complement the individual face.
The lips are a sensitive area, but treatment is generally well tolerated. A topical anaesthetic may be used, and many hyaluronic acid fillers contain lidocaine for additional comfort. You may experience pressure, a slight stinging sensation or brief discomfort during treatment.
Results commonly last between 6 and 18 months, although this varies depending on the product used, individual metabolism, facial movement, lifestyle and other individual factors. Some patients may retain the result for longer, while others may metabolise the filler more quickly.
Some swelling is expected following lip filler treatment and is usually most noticeable during the first 24–48 hours before gradually subsiding. Temporary tenderness, bruising or asymmetry caused by swelling may also occur.
The initial effect is visible immediately, but the final result should be assessed once the swelling has resolved and the filler has settled into the tissues. This may take several weeks, which is why early adjustments are generally avoided unless clinically indicated.
Yes. Hyaluronic acid filler can be dissolved with hyaluronidase when clinically appropriate. However, the ability to dissolve filler does not make treatment risk-free. Careful planning, appropriate product selection and a considered amount of filler remain essential from the outset.
Following treatment, avoid unnecessary pressure or massage of the lips unless specifically advised by your practitioner. Strenuous exercise, excessive heat and certain other activities may also need to be temporarily avoided. You will receive individual aftercare instructions based on your treatment.

As swelling and bruising can occur, we recommend allowing sufficient time between your appointment and any important event.
The appropriate amount depends on your anatomy, existing lip volume and desired result. For a first treatment, a conservative approach is often preferable, with the option to build the result gradually over time. Excessive volume in a single session can compromise natural proportions and may increase the likelihood of swelling or filler migration.
In many cases, hyaluronic acid filler can improve mild lip asymmetry, although complete correction is not always possible. Asymmetry may also be influenced by muscle activity, dental structure, bite or overall facial anatomy, all of which should be considered during assessment.

Atrophic scars

Atrophic scars are indented scars that most commonly appear following acne or other inflammatory conditions. They are caused by a loss of collagen and uneven skin regeneration.

Appropriate treatment methods

At Dermique, we don’t treat acne scars using just one technique. Where necessary, we combine:
